This is a beautiful specimen of Amphiplaga brachyptera from our American Fossil Quarry in the ancient Fossil Lake. Amphiplaga is one of the more rare of the Green River fish fossils, making up just 1% of the total from Fossil Lake, its only known location in the world. Named by the famous paleontologist E.D. Cope, the name Amphiplaga is means "ambiguous wound", pointing to the fact that the first specimen was headless.
