This is a very beautiful piece of Canadian ammolite. It is one of the most sought after stones/fossils in the world. Ammolite is an opal-like organic gemstone made of the fossilized shells of ammonites, which in turn is composed primarily of aragonite with a microstructure inherited from the shell. It is one of few biogenic gemstones in the world. In 1981, ammolite was given official gemstone status by the World Jewelry Confederation.
